Including an Ahnentafel chart which counts upwards listing ancestors of Aley Guffey, my great-great-grandmother; and a Register which counts downward listing descendants of Uriah Guffey, my great-great-great grandfather. I did not include any dates about living persons, to respect their privacy. If you have information you would like me to change or add, please e-mail me at the bottom of this page. You may use this information for your own personal, church or family use, but not for commercial uses, please..
| To read this type of ancestral chart, double the number of the person to find that person's father. For example, #3's father is #6, whose father is #12, whose father is #24, and so on up the line of generations. As I hit an end-of-line (dead-end) those ahnentafel numbers will drop out, although the other parents' numbers continue on. When I find more information eventually (hopefully!), I will plug the new names into the page into the correct place, with their ahnentafel numbers now visible. |

Great-granddaughter Cora PRUETT wrote out a family record in 1982, stating that he was one-quarter Cherokee Indian and fought in the Revolutionary War (she meant the Black Hawk War) drawing a pension. The 1900 Census of Fayette County Illinois shows Uriah's son William R. GUFFEY. It lists Williams' father having been born in Kentucky; right below it lists Fred Guffey (Williams' brother) listing HIS father having been born in Tennessee. Tennessee may have been made from that part of Kentucky when it became a state. Check out Roane County. Other sources state both his parents were from North Carolina. One source says Uriah was listed as Urich, parents Henry and Lydia Guffey. This needs to be checked out. Source says Urich fought in Florida (also known as Seminole) War. 3. Abigail HUDSON was born 20 May 1821 in Tennessee. She died 12 April 1911 in Wilberton township, Fayette County, Illinois and was buried in Nichols Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. Obituary of April 20 1911 states she had 44 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren at that time. POEM from children at funeral time.

To read this genealogical register of descendants, look at this example: + 10 M ix. Berrey Guffey was born 27 February 1860 and died 9 November 1935. The plus sign (+) means he has descendants, so you will find him and his own family of children later too, with even more info about him listed there, just look for the 10 again later in the list. Then you see his own "ID number (10)" then whether or not he is "male (M) or female (F)" and then the Roman numeral means "which number child he is, within his siblings." He is the 9th child born in that family. i=1 ii=2 iii=3 iv=4 v=5 vi=6 vii=7 viii=8 ix=9 x=10 xi=11 and so on. If there are no + signs, it means that either that person had no children, or I don't have any information about any children (and I would like to know some!) |

Tombstone says "Beel Edna E. May 30 1880 Feb 9 1952 daughter" From the 1900 census I would assume the tombstone is incorrect or read incorrectly. Obituary states that half-brother Richard (Charles???) Gatewood and half-sister Mrs. Ora Rice of Forrest, Illinois survives her; two half-sisters are pre-deceased. Old family records state her birth year as 1849. Lula Kater of Decatur in 1993 notes shows a Cordelia born in 1870 to Rachel who would have been 20 years old and unmarried. Rachel's marriage license shows date of March 1878, a newspaper article announced the birth of James and Rachel's "first" baby that same month. So who knows? What happened to Cordelia? Rachel married (1) James M. Williams on 21 March 1878 in Fayette County, Illinois. James was born 1 June 1842 in Marion County, Illinois. He died 20 February 1930. NOTES: Birth listed in family records of Cora Pruett, niece, as 3 July 1851. This is probably wrong. Marriage license shows age 21 in 1876, making birth year 1855. The Vandalia Union of March 20 1924 in the "Ancient History" column notes that 20 years ago Noah Guffey, who lives in Wilberton township, was kicked by a mule and was seriously hurt. It kicked him in the chest. It stated he lived on Dr. Greer's farm in Wilberton township and was so badly hurt it was thought he would die. Also Noah was critically ill in late 1933, according to son Chester's obituary. Noah married (1) Janie Marie Deal on 13 May 1876 in Fayette County, Illinois. Janie was born 23 September 1861 in Illinois. She died 25 June 1950. SOURCES: 1900 Census of Fayette County, Illinois, Otego township house #101 shows "Jane, born March 1872, 10/11 children still alive, born Ill" Obviously this birth year is wrong, she was married in 1876, she had a child in 1882. Her tombstone says 1861. Only seven children are living with the family. Marriage license in Fayette County Marriage book shows "Maria J. Beel, age 15, and Noah Guffey age 21 on May 13, 1876."
