A stone nearby is for Myrtle Helen WHITEHEAD. Joe Thompson of Port Townsend, WA has a birthdate of about 4 Oct 1833. 6. David Elisha PRUETT was born 1848 in Illinois. He died 6 February 1875 in Wilberton township, Fayette County, Illinois and was buried in Nichols Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. SOURCE: See husbands' notes. Possible father is W. B. Nichols who bought at her husband's estate in 1866. This needs to be checked. 14. Uriah GUFFEY was born 19 November 1809 in Tennessee. He died 26 April 1897 in Wilberton township, Fayette County, Illinois and was buried 28 April 1897 in Nichols Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. Boyer 2 Ill Reg d 26 Dec 1897" Note the different death month. WILL, probate & administrator's report. NOTES: He emigrated to Fayette County in 1847. Great-granddaughter Cora PRUETT wrote out a family record in 1982, stating that he was one-quarter Cherokee Indian and fought in the Revolutionary War (she meant the Black Hawk War) drawing a pension. The 1900 Census of Fayette County Illinois shows Uriah's son William R. GUFFEY. It lists Williams' father having been born in Kentucky; right below it lists Fred Guffey (Williams' brother) listing HIS father having been born in Tennessee. Tennessee may have been made from that part of Kentucky when it became a state. Check out Roane County. Other sources state both his parents were from North Carolina. One source says Uriah was listed as Urich, parents Henry and Lydia Guffey. This needs to be checked out. Source says Urich fought in Florida (also known as Seminole) War. 15. Abigail HUDSON was born 20 May 1821 in Tennessee. She died 12 April 1911 in Wilberton tnsp, Fayette County, Illinois and was buried in Nichols Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. SOURCES: 1900 Census of Fayette County, Illinois gives birthdate as May 1820 not 1821. It states both her parents were born in Virginia, that she could not read or write but could speak English. She was running her farm with her two bachelor sons, William R and Fred. It was free of mortgage, and 7 of her eleven children were still alive. FAYETTE FACTS Vol 6. No. 4 page 10 shows tombstone saying "GUFFEY Abigale wife U. b___20, 1821" FAYETTE FACTS XV No. 1 page 22 "Confidence News" states that Granny Guffey was very ill with cancer of the face, Vandalia Union dated March 2 1911. Also obituary from Vandalia newspaper and a family record written in 1982 by her great grand-daughter Cora PRUETT. It states that she was one-half Cherokee Indian. NOTES: Other sources say she died 7 April. Others record her father being from South Carolina and her mother from Alabama. To read this genealogical register of descendants, look at this example: + 10 M ix. Berrey Guffey was born 27 February 1860 and died 9 November 1935. The plus sign (+) means he has descendants, so you will find him and his own family of children later too, with even more info about him listed there, just look for the 10 again later in the list. Then you see his own "ID number (10)" then whether or not he is "male (M) or female (F) (U=unknown gender)" and then the Roman numeral means "which number child he is, within his siblings." He is the 9th child born in that family. i=1 ii=2 iii=3 iv=4 v=5 vi=6 vii=7 viii=8 ix=9 x=10 xi=11 and so on. FAMILY STORY says his wife may have poisoned him to death. Hester died before him, so this was a second wife. A Mary Whitehead was involved in the lawsuit, and a few months later, a 28 years old Mrs. Mary Whitehead of Otego married a man named Harry Lemons, age 41. His second marriage was only four years old. NOT listed as surviving James in his obituary of 1938. Cornelius married (1) Hester Anna WOODBURN before 1900. Hester was born 24 February 1868 in Cumberland County, Illinois. She died 2 August 1916. Vol. 86 sheet 10 line 35 shows "WHITEHEAD James W., born June 1867, age 32, married 9 years, born Ill, father born Ohio, mother born Ohio" Note the different year of birth, & birthplaces of parents. OBITUARY from Vandalia Union Feb. 3 1938. MARRIAGE: Marriage License from Illinois Fayette County Marriages 1878-1897 Vol 2 page 383, married in Wheatland township by J.S. PIPPIN, J of P, witnessed by John CONRAD and T. C. PIPPIN. NOTES: Obituary states father died two months before his birth; he came to Fayette County with his mother and family at age 11. He witnessed the marriage of Richard Gatewood's & Elsie Guffey's son Charles. His wife Dora was the cousin of Charles. Vandalia Union, Confidence news states in January 18, 1912 edition "James Whitehead spent Sunday with Amos Ballard". February 1 1912 edition says he "threshed his cowpeas on Sunday". James married (1) Dora Isabell "Ida" PRUETT, daughter of David Elisha PRUETT and Aley GUFFEY on 18 January 1891 in Fayette County, Illinois. Dora was born 2 September 1872 in Lone Grove township, Fayette, Illinois. She died 16 January 1953 in Centralia, Marion, Illinois.
